Held on the grounds of the MSU Student Organic Farm, the annual Hoophouse Gala fundraiser brings guests together to enjoy a local and sustainably produced harvest dinner prepared by MSU’s award-winning chefs and showcasing products of Michigan farms and wineries. To date, this formal event has raised $120,000 to create scholarships for the training and education of a next generation of Michigan's organic farmers.
The Michigan State University Student Organic Farm is a 10-acre, four-season teaching farm with the mission to cultivate knowledge and human capacity in organic and sustainable agriculture for students, farmers and educators. With a variety of funding sources, the farm team has spent the last several years developing hoophouse production and education methods for extending the growing season and increasing winter vegetable production in the Midwest. A hoophouse is an unheated passive solar greenhouse used to help farmers extend their growing seasons and increase vegetable, fruit, flower and herb production.
